Some would call me a nerd but for me I have always defined the difference between the two as simply this: A nerd loves technology but doesn’t get along with people. A geek loves technology but has people skills. Therefore I classify myself as a geek. To clarify – let’s all remember this great scene from the movie “Office Space”:
Tom Smykowski: Well-well look. I already told you: I deal with the $#@ !#[email protected] customers so the engineers don’t have to. I have people skills; I am good at dealing with people. Can’t you understand that? What the hell is wrong with you people?
I truly believe that technology and more so, the communication we can achieve by using it, will one day allow all of us on this little blue planet that is spinning and moving at speeds we can’t even fathom, to realize that we are all in this together. Communication is the key to ending all our problems. It allows us to see different perspectives, viewpoints, needs, wants, desires, passions and most importantly dreams. I know it’s a bit “hippy idealish,” but why can’t we live in a world without war and hate? All we have to do is listen, truly listen to our fellow travelers on this planet we call Earth. To quote my favorite movie franchise, Back to the Future:
If you put your mind to it, you can accomplish anything.
Outside the Box – There are always multiple solutions to a problem. The trick is finding the one that fits best and more so make whatever it is you are trying to accomplish work as easily and as fluid as possible. This is why I’m a bit of an Apple Fan Boy and I’m not ashamed to admit it. They do it right and the critics know it.
Passion for Technology – This goes along with my previous strength in that for some reason technology scares people. I honestly cannot figure out why but it does. I believe in systems the promote great user interface and mask all the nerdy details. Those details are my job and they should never impede or slow down your goals and passions.
Weird – Short and simple, I’m a bit weird. I say what is on my mind and believe that being “Politically Correct” destroys the driving charisma of a business and society in general. This of course doesn’t mean to be rude to someone but c’mon, it was just a joke, let’s all move forward with our great ideas and not let the silly things pull us down.
