Denver Social Media: Survey shows perceived social media marketing priorities

Social media changes all the time and provides endless opportunities for new perspectives.

Last Friday, our Social Media for Business meetup group embraced the dynamic nature of the medium by creating a "VIP experience" and directing the majority of the action to the balcony. Many of us stuck around to network and collaborate in rather comfortable and unique environs.

Prior to the event, Webolutions emailed a survey to those who had RSVP'd, "yes." It asked recipients to provide their top social media marketing priorities for 2011. Here are the results of that survey:

  • 17percent - Social Media Content Generation
  • 17percent - Developing Your Online Community
  • 15 percent - Understanding the ROI of Social Media
  • 13 percent - Creating an Effective & Consistent Plan
  •  9 percent - Video Marketing
  •  9 percent - Strategic Blogging
  •  6 percent - Linking Local & Social
  •  6 percent - Linking Mobile & Social
  •  6 percent - Niche Social Networks
  •  2 percent - Social Media Listening

The interest in ROI and planning is reflective of the overt business focus of the group and its members. Content generation leading the pack is consistent with what we at Webolutions observe is a pain point of many executives examining social media as a marketing tool: The importance of embracing social media is increasingly understood.

Also understood is that content is the engine driving successful social media efforts. "I get that I need to do this," the market seems to be telling us, "but do what, exactly?"

We'll use this feedback to shape our agenda for 2011, with the goal of helping each other grow more sophisticated and strategic in the use of these tools.

We'll be back and using the whole joint again Friday, January 11, 2011. Join us, and join the conversation!
