Denver Social Media: Change your Facebook Page name...quick!

Your friendly neighborhood social media marketing geek here with a bulletin on a couple things you may have wanted to do with your Facebook Page but couldn't until now.

Change the Name of your Facebook Page

Until recently, when you created a Facebook Page for your business, Facebook warned you to be sure it was what you want it to be before you publish it to the world. And yet, somehow, we still ended up with "social media experts" with pages trumpeting themselves as "Markeitng" consultants.

Well, fear not, "markeitng" gurus: Facebook now allows you to edit the name of your page! So pull out your dictionaries, fire up those spell-checkers and follow these instructions:

  1. Go to your page.
  2. Click "Edit Page" on the top left on the admin masthead.
  3. Under, "Basic Information," just type in the new and improved Page name.

Please note: This feature is limited to Facebook Pages with fewer than 100 fans, or "likers," or whatever we are this month. If you are a marketer who can't spell, "marketing," this is probably--hopefully--not an issue. An option for some others may be to ask some of your closest friends or dearest fans to "unlike," or be voluntarily removed, to get you below 100 fans...and then once the name is changed, "suggest" the page to them again, and thank them profusely for their loyalty and support. Maybe buy them an ice cream. If your mom, for example, "likes" your Page, this may be an option...depending, of course, on how sensitive your mom is.

So go fix that typo...quick! Before 100 people decide you're likeable!

Removing Yourself as an Admin

Many of us in the social media marketing game launch Facebook Pages for clients, friends, moms, and clients' friends' moms who sell stuff to other moms but who don't become ongoing clients of ours. Then, once the Page is launched, we get metrics on the performance on those Pages in reports. We tire of having to push aside the data in favor of those that belong to the treasured lot who, however indirectly, pay our mortages (May the good Lord bless and keep you, always). This leads to a desire to remove ourselves as "admins" of these Pages we've birthed. Until recently, we were unable to do this.

Now we can. One caviat: Another person must be given administrator rights on the Page before the Page founder can remove her/himself.

If you started a Page with "Markeitng" in its name, you should bow out for any number of reasons.

What do you need to do with your Facebook Page but can't figure out?
