Community Involvement as a Part of Doing Business
Amy Martinez - 2.22.2011 11:00 AM
More and more companies today are including community involvement as a normal part of the way they do business. Consumers respect companies that give back and contribute to making their local communities a better place to live, work and play. People want to support these companies because it shows they are invested in the local community they share. Letting the public know you care about and support your community is a great way to improve your reputation with consumers.
You don’t have to spend a lot as a company to become more involved in the community. You can set aside a budget for doing these events, or you can do what Webolutions does. We have employees on our team that care about many charitable organizations and together we organize these events as opportunities become available. We use these opportunities to work together as a team, support our community and to have fun!
Participating in fundraising challenges is a fun way to be competitive with other teams (and within your own team) and no company funds have to be used, unless of course you make a donation on behalf of the company or do matching gifts.
Ways to get your business name out there (in a community involvement kind of way)
Not sure where to start? There are so many things you can do, talk to your team members and see if they have any ideas. Here are a few to get you started:
- Sponsor a little league team or local event
- Organize teams to participate in fundraising events
- Join a local chamber of commerce, they have many events that are perfect for this
- Volunteer to work at a local festival or event
- Underwrite local cultural organizations or arts programs
- Enter a local parade, create a fun float
Webolutions has participated in many community events; here are a few of the most memorable:
- Make-A-Wish Foundation - Kickball Tournament
- MDA (Muscular Dystrophy Association) - Fundraising Event
- Comitis Crisis Center – Grocery Cart Race
- Diabetes Walk Denver – Fundraising Walk
What has your company done to make your community a better place to live or do business?
Let us know we’d love to hear from you!
